Programs Offered

Wild Child Programs are a project of Sierra Club Canada Foundation, a national and grassroots non-profit organization committed to protecting our environment, communities, and future.

Wild Child’s mission is to provide play-based learning through repeated exposure to nature. Nova Scotia’s Wild Child Program encompasses 3 projects: Wild Child Nature Immersion, Wild Child Forest School, and Wild Child Forest and Nature Camp. We also run some special projects whenever we get funding.

We are excited to be offering various workshops to our communities. Mindfulness in Nature is our first project of the year! Be sure to keep an eye on our socials for updates.

Wild Child Forest School – 8 week sessions for all seasons

Ages: 4 to 12- open to everyone, not just homeschool families

The goal of Forest Schools is to help children and youth find inspiration, build self-confidence, and develop healthy self-esteem through skill development, hands on activities, and outdoor experiences. This is a social enterprise that operates as a fee for service, recreational program for children. The program provides opportunities for emergent and child led activities, including tool use and risky play in a natural setting. Wild Child Forest School offers programs for children from 3 to 13 years of age. They can be offered as half-day, full-day, Saturdays, and week long summer camps depending on the location.

Wild Child Nature Immersion: offered at YOUR location

Wild Child Nature Immersion program is designed to introduce young children to outdoor free play. Over three visits, an educator will brings fun environmental education to child care sites, and encourages staff and children to get outside, play games and engage in age appropriate activities. Through stories, crafts, games and exploration, children will get to know their corner of the woods.

This program caters to daycares, early learning centers, preschools, school age classrooms. The program can be adapted to accommodate any age group. Please contact Wild Child at wildchild@sierraclub.ca to see if Nature Immersion is a good fit.

Wild Child Forest and Nature Camp

Ages: 3-6 & 4-12, open to everyone

These camps give children a taste of Forest School. All the same principles still apply, but its a more condensed program.

Mostly offered during the summer, but we offer PD Day Camps and March Break camps as well.

Current Programs 2022-2023

At Wild Child, we promote independence, confidence, and communication. We promote laughter, joy, and the idea that outside is a place where everyone belongs! We have the privilege of supporting each child’s passion and interests. We will ensure that children trust their bodies, are aware of their own boundaries, and are confident in their environment.
Through repeated outdoor risky-play, we help children appreciate the forest and all it has to offer as a learning environment. Exploring their creativity in a natural environment, while encouraging independence and exploration. Embracing children’s individuality and offering a safe space to be themselves. See pictures at the bottom of the page for info on drop-off/pick-up location.
